MY FIRST-EVER IPL EXPERIENCE

I’ve always loved Indian Premium League (IPL). Being a die-hard fan of Chennai Super Kings, I wanted to witness Thala Dhoni’s six at least once in my lifetime.

My dad chose the perfect gift for me for scoring well in my 12th-grade board examination. He gave me a ticket to the Chennai Super Kings vs Delhi Capitals match at Chepauk.

The excitement of getting ready in our yellow CSK jersey, beating the traffic, and entering the grand stadium was exhilarating. Luckily, my dad and I had the member’s ticket, and our entry was hassle-free. We were right on time.

The atmosphere inside the stadium was electric, with the DJs playing vibrant songs, my dad’s loud whistle, and the cheer from the crowd, with a Frankie in my hand. What more could I have wished for?

CSK won the toss and chose to bat. Openers Gaikwad and Conway kick-started the match. It went great.

It was heartwarming to see that the crowd continued to support and encourage the CSK players, even in challenging moments. That unity and spirit among fans like us made the experience unforgettable.

The Captain of the Delhi Capitals, David Warner, has a vast south fanbase, and it was great to see him as well.

We were nearing the death overs, and it was Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja on the field. Rayudu got out, and we knew precisely our next batsman in the lineup.

The moment I had been waiting for arrived—the entry of Thala Dhoni. The cheer and excitement were overwhelming as he stepped onto the field with the Dj playing ” En Peru Padayappa, ” a classic Tamil song in the background.

Witnessing him hit those two sixes, and a four was an absolute dream come true for me. Moments like these make cricket fans like me feel a deep connection with the sport and their favourite players.

The second innings went equally thrilling, especially with the impressive performance of the CSK bowling lineup, particularly Pathirana taking three wickets that changed the entire pace of the match.

It was a comfortable win for CSK. We celebrated the victory with fellow CSK fans, and feeling that sense of unity and family among strangers is truly special for me. Both the teams were sportive and were fantastic on the field.

My dad and I watched all the award distribution and waited mainly for Thala Dhoni’s speech. But yes, I couldn’t hear even a word. The crowd’s thunderous cheer was much louder than Chepauk’s sound system. But it was all worth it. I couldn’t take my eyes off Mahindra Singh Dhoni and never wanted to leave the stadium.

Yet returning home with a whole heart and cherishing the memories of the match, I owe it all to my dad, my cricket partner, who gifted me this once-in-a-lifetime experience. The bond I share with my dad through cricket will be cherished forever.

My first experience in an Aeroplane

This is the first photo of me inside an airport. I am the one in the green dress on the right. I was very curious and eagerly kept looking around to find where the plane was!!

We took a quick family selfie.

It was new to me to find the baggages being screened by X-Ray machines.

This is the Indigo aircraft that we were about to fly.

Photo of us entering the plane and looking for our seats.

During the take off, the flight started to move very fast and this scared me. I started to cry. But,after sometime the plane traveled smoothly and I became alright. It was just like going in a car.

The distance between Chennai and Coimbatore is 500 kms and it usually takes 8 hours by car. So, I was shocked when my dad told me that we already reached Coimbatore within 1 hour!

While entering the flight I noticed two celebrities. They are Actor Surya and his brother Actor Karthik. Me and my sister wanted to take a photo with them. We went to them and requested to take a photo. Actor Surya politely said no. He explained that if we take a photo now, then others will start to come for the photos. This will disturb the neighbouring passengers. He said we will take a photo when the flight lands. So, we came back to our seats.

It was an interesting experience ordering food inside the flight. Above the seats, there are buttons which is used to call the air-hostesses. I pressed the button and the air-hostess came to my seat shortly. She asked me what I wanted. I replied I wanted two samosas and my sister ordered cheese sandwich. The samosas were very delicious but they were very expensive. The cost of two samosas was Rs.150. On my return, I ordered Corny Chips which was very tasty.

While traveling from Chennai to Coimbatore, I experienced sun light and loved the clouds below. They were like cotton beds. The next day, I took the night flight back to Chennai. When the flight took off, the lights of Coimbatore city looked like diamonds. This reminded me of Sindbad the Sailor’s adventure in the valley of diamonds.

The houses looked like toy home we play in Trade game and people looked like ants!

This is us getting down from the flight.

After getting down from the flight, we boarded the transit bus which took us to the airport.

We finally waited for our luggages to arrive at the coimbatore airport. We picked up the luggages from the giant carousel. Me and my sister were very tempted to jump on it and take a free ride! 🙂

These were my experience of my first flight.

Diwali Pictures

We had good fun celebrating Diwali. Here are a few pictures of me.

Our teacher asked each one of us in our class to make a poster for Diwali. This was for decorating our class room. My mom helped me make this one. Like it?

That’s my Diwali dress. My parents bought me two sets of dresses. The one I wore in the morning was a Pattu Pavadai (silk dress) , a photo of which my Dad never clicked!

Me trying to concentrate hard not to get burnt!

That’s me with the red coloured kambi mathappu!

A Tonsurous Experience

At the outset, let me tell you that this is not an experience I liked.  I really don’t understand why should kids be mottai-adichified. Anyways, this happened a couple of years ago and the tale had to be told for the benefit of other kutti pasangal who should be forewarned.

That’s my dad carrying my sister, Krithya and me.  I’m on the right.   This was taken just before we left for the Vadapalani temple.

Just look at the tresses.  Everyone loves them. Especially my Dad and Mom… which is why I’m surprised it was them who decided to remove them.  Parents…. I tell you!!

I was under the impression that we were supposed to go to the temple.  Yes, we did go to the temple but my folks took me straight to this place which didn’t look like a temple.

There was this morose looking guy.  There were lots of other kids screaming their throats hoarse.

They then made me sit on a wooden plank and this guy took some sort of knife.

And then the painful part of the entire experience started.  I started screaming and to kick around. My Dad and grandfather help me tight while the guy began to shave my head.

My mom tells me that it only took 5 minutes but to me it felt like years.  That’s my mom soothing me.

I then sprung back to my bubbly naughty self soon.  That’s me with my thatha’s  specs.

Acting in a Drama

I recently took part in a drama at our apartment. Me and my friends enacted a drama based on the book written by my sister. Here are photos from the drama.

I played the role of a soldier in the drama.

That’s me singing with the rest of the troupe.  We are singing ‘Poo Pookum Osai’ song. This happened after the drama finished.

That’s me receiving a small gift from Singer Chinmayi. She is a good friend of my Dad and Mom.
